Centre for Collective Action Research (CeCAR)

Welcome the Centre for Collective Action Research (CeCAR). The centre focuses on one of the most pressing challenges of today: Large-Scale Collective Action (LSCA). This is a challenge that needs to be addressed in order to overcome most of our current social, environmental and health problems.

1. What factors determine successful voluntary LSCA?

2. How do these factors interact and what is the effect of such interactions on voluntary LSCA?

3. What factors determine successful regulated LSCA, for example compliance with policies?

4. How do these factors interact and what is the interaction effect on regulated LSCA?

An inter-disciplinary research centre

Founded in 2016, CeCAR is an inter-disciplinary centre of researchers at the University of Gothenburg. CeCAR involves experts from the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the School of Business Economics and Law, the Faculty of Arts as well as the Faculty of Education. The centre is funded in the scope of UGOT Challenges.

Research focus

"People have to sacrifice a little bit of their short term self-interest to help the world be a better place for the long term. And how you get people to do that, I think, is the most important research that can be done."

Ken Caldeira, Carnegie Institution for Science.
